The SPORALTEC Competitiveness cluster, dedicated to the sports and leisure equipment industry, was officially inaugurated on 14th October 2005 by the government. It already consists of 30 active members, united in a threefold ambition :

• to improve the research capability of Rhône-Alpes laboratories involved in engineering and sports and leisure technologies
• to use innovation to increase the competitiveness of Rhône-Alpes companies in their own markets
• to become an attractive world centre where the sporting techniques and equipment of tomorrow are invented.
