Second tramway line in Saint-Etienne

The tramway, which has been a symbol of Saint-Etienne since 1881, is also one of the most modern modes of transport, and has been adopted by many major French cities such as Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux.

The tramway provides benefits such as unparalleled speed, fluidity and journey regularity, a minimum of noise and 100% ecologically-friendly vehicles powered by electrical energy.

In Saint-Etienne, the second tramway line links the hyper-centre to the Châteaucreux metropolitan rail station, making it possible to reach the TGV high-speed train station in five minutes from the centre of town. This link will connect the conurbation’s key facilities such as hospitals, university campus, the Cité du Design, the modern art museum and the Geoffroy Guichard stadium to this transport system, improving its multi-mode aspect.

The centre will include a bus station (15 urban and inter-urban bus platforms), a bicycle park and a 600-space car park. Ultimately, this new urban transport line will also bring benefits to Saint-Etienne’s retail centre, expanding the range of commercial facilities on offer on the ground floor of buildings and bringing new uses to public areas and existing real-estate property.
